The above figure was derived from the input matrix shown on the preceding page. The sequences were re-ordered, based on the the order of appearence of each species, genus and higher taxon in Bergey's Outline of Prokaryotic Taxa (Release 3). Note the presence of contrasting areas within some of the groups, where one or more sequences shows a high level of relatedness to another sequence off the diagonal. Such regions are particulary notable within the Alteromonadaceae, suggesting a number of taxonomic misplacements or annotation errors.
