An optimized heat map of the Alteromonadaceae produced using the Self-organizing Self-correcting Classifier (SOSCT) of Garrity and Lilburn. This algorithm seeks to reorganize the distance matrix by minimizing the distance between nearest neighbors, thus yielding a maximally smoothed rearrangement. The groupings seen here can readily be mapped back to the four groups of Alteromonadaceae seen in the optimized Gammaproteobacteria heat map and indicate how this group might be revised.
